South Hook Noise Group Noise Ratings from recent Vessel visits

impactometer

A revised version of the South Hook Noise Group Noise rating system in which we rate noise emanating from vessels based on a collaborative assessment from locations suffering noise issues from locations within South Pembrokeshire. The new system rates both the distance in which residential properties are affected by noise emanating from the vessel at berth with a range-o-meter rating, and shows the impact of the noise with an impact-o-meter rating.

Joint Monitoring for the Aamira, Rasheeda, Shagra and Zarga
Added 3.20am (GMT) on 25th March 2011

On the 24th March, we learned joint monitoring of noise emanating from the 'Aamira' was intending to take place. A representative from South Hook (An Environmental Technician), a representative from Qatargas and the 'wholly independent' noise consultants (RPS Groups' Acoustic, Noise and Vibration Division) who are employed by Qatargas/South Hook intended to visit the properties in conjunction with Environmental Health Officers from the Port Health Team of local residents who made complaints of noise issues from the vessel to Pembrokeshire County Council.

Although we hoped to give positive feedback of South Hook continuing to work closely with Pembrokeshire County Councils' Port Health Team, Unfortunatly we have to report that the representatives refused to enter residential properties and witness the noise issues with Pembrokeshire County Council Port Health Team, even when a number of local residents invited the whole party to their properties and through their homes late in the evening and early hours of the morning.

We still are keen to encourage the South Hook and Qatargas representatives to engage in working alongside the Pembrokeshire County Council Port Health Team, which has been stated previously in a number of South Hook Press Releases, and although this may appear to be happening, this close working relationship is not apparent from what was witnessed at properties which were visited.

All members of the South Hook Noise Community Group would like to extend our thanks to the Port Health Team for responding to out of hours calls and working through the night on the 24th & 25th March while the 'Aamira' was at berth, and on the 29th & 30th March while the 'Zarga' was at berth.

Both vessels caused considerable noise issues for local residents.
